Dan Dotsey’s place as one of Cabrini College’s best men’s tennis players ever is unquestioned.
A five-time all-conference performer, Dotsey posted over 100 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC)
victories, advanced to four PAC singles championships, winning the title in 1998, and captured three PAC doubles crowns.
After graduating from Archbishop Carroll High School, Dotsey came to Cabrini looking for a small school where he could continue to compete in tennis and basketball. Cabrini was a perfect fit for Dotsey, who excelled on the collegiate tennis courts, while playing junior varsity basketball for the Cavaliers.
Dotsey made an immediate impact on the court as a rookie, leading the Blue and White to its first PAC title. Dotsey teamed with Alex Corhill to win the 1994 PAC doubles title and advanced to No. 1 singles championship match.
Dotsey and Corkhill continued their doubles partnership, earning their second PAC title in 1996.
After not playing during the 1996-97 academic year, Dotsey returned to the court with a vengeance. The senior reached the quarterfinals of the Fall 1997 ITA Regional Championship before dominating the PAC in the spring.
Dotsey earned four of the six PAC Player of the Week honors en route to the league’s Player of the Year accolade. After falling short three times, Dotsey defeated Eastern’s Mark Herdelin to claim the No. 1 singles title. Then with partner Pete Pietranik, Dotsey claimed his third No. 1 doubles championship.
One of the factors that allowed Dotsey to remain successful on the court was his comfort at Cabrini off the court.
“There was such a family atmosphere here,” Dotsey said. “The classes were small so you got to know the others students and your professors. I had no doubt that I was building friendships that would last a lifetime.”
Not only were those relationships built in the classroom, but also with teammates during late night practices and annual trips to Hilton Head, S.C. for Spring Break.
“Those were some of the best memories. Just hanging out with the guys off the court, but it was some of the best competition we would see the entire season.”
