When Elizabeth “Lizzie” Williams was looking for a college to attend, she had several things she wanted in a campus.

She wanted a small school environment with a strong academic program, especially in science and a solid varsity athletic program.

Needless to say, Williams checked each of her boxes when she chose Cabrini. She managed to combine a Hall of Fame athletic career with passion for science that has led her to a successful career in sports medicine.

Williams collected three All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) and Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) honors during her career.

She punctuated her career in 2009 with All-CSAC First Team accolades and was named Most Valuable player of the CSAC Championship after an eight kill, 29 assist, five dig performance that secured the program’s first conference title.

Williams thrived under the team-first environment created by head coaches Tricia Arnold and Eric Schaefer. As a setter, it was important to have a connection to her teammates, especially the hitters, that was built through a variety of team-building events and road trips.

Those experiences paid off on the court with success that has stood the test of time. Williams remains the program’s all-time leader with 268 service aces, while her 2,810 career assists rank second all-time.  Both also rank seventh on the CSAC’s career lists.

As much as Williams was a self-described perfectionist on the court, her skills and abilities translated to the classroom, as well.

Williams was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team three times, culminating with the Cabrini Athletics Girard-Goodwin Female Scholar Athlete Award, for the highest grade point average among senior student-athletes.

Williams credits her time management skills and confidence to ask for help for much of her success both on the court and in the classroom. Williams then carried those attributes to medical school and beyond.

Williams earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency from Lankenau Medical Center, in Philadelphia, PA. She then completed her Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Washington, Seattle in July 2018 before joining the San Diego Sports Medicine Center in August 2018.

Board certified in Internal Medicine and with an added certificate of qualification in Sports Medicine, Williams is a team physician at San Diego State University, Point Loma University, and La Jolla Country Day School and works closely with University of San Diego.
