Michael Tims took the definition of a full schedule to the extreme during his days as a Cabrini student-athlete, competing in three sports, while remaining active in extra-curricular activities.

Tims chose Cabrini over several other college options, due in large part to former men’s soccer head coach and Hall of Famer Duncan Hubley.  Coach Hubley’s interest in Tims as a person off the pitch and the mutual respect he had for his players showed Tims that Cabrini was the place for him.

Hubley’s initial impression of Tims as a player who could help “propel the team to greater heights” proved to be true over the next four years.

Tims made an immediate splash for the Cavaliers and was named Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Rookie of the Year. After being named captain following his sophomore season, Tims and the Cavaliers really took off.

In 1993 Tims was named to the All-PAC First Team, as he led Cabrini to a 2-1 win over Eastern for the program’s first ever conference championship.

The Cavaliers held their spot atop the league in 1994, as Tims netted 19 goals and was named Most Valuable Player of the title game.  Following the season, Tims was named PAC Offensive MVP, named to the All-Southeastern PA Team and was a finalist for the Division III National Player of the Year.

While that would have been enough to fill the careers of most student-athletes, Tims took his talents to the hardwood during the winter months.  Tims played on Cabrini’s junior varsity basketball team in each of his four years.

The spring months found Tims posting record-breaking performances on the track team. The team’s 1993 Rookie of the Year, Tims once owned program records in the high jump, discus and shot put. Tims also ran one leg of the program’s 4x100 relay team that set a program record in 1995.

While his ability to achieve such a high level of success in all three sports was never his plan, his ability to remain organized has always helped him stay focused and be productive.

Tims has passed the lessons he learned at Cabrini to the next generation, as his daughter Emma is a member of Cabrini’s women’s lacrosse team.
