When Sabina DeGisi Lennon stepped onto campus, she was not sure if she would continue her soccer career.

She had found a nice, small campus that felt comfortable for her. She also knew a few other students here, but the soccer remained a question.

That was until she had a conversation with Head Coach Ken Prothero. After their discussion, DeGisi Lennon decided to join the team as a walk-on.

Prothero’s confidence in DeGisi Lennon paid off in the first match of the 2006 season. Cabrini was facing Meredith College in Fayetteville, NC.

Prothero moved the rookie from sweeper to forward, a move that paid immediate dividends, as DeGisi Lennon had scored two goals to lead Cabrini to a 3-1 victory.

At the end of the 2006 season, DeGisi Lennon was named Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Rookie of the Year, after posting 36 points and 16 goals, both among the women’s soccer program’s single season leaders.

The scoring never stopped for DeGisi Lennon, as she closed her four-year career with 138 points on 62 goals and 14 assists. Despite graduating in 2010, she still leads the program’s career goals list by nearly 20 goals and stands almost 40 points atop the all-time points list.

DeGisi Lennon also holds the number two spot on the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) all-time list in both points and goals.

Never one to focus on statistics, DeGisi Lennon kept her focus on her enjoyment of the game and the time spent with her teammates.

Among her fondest memories as a student-athlete are weekend trips with the team and the team’s trip to Brazil in 2008. “I really just wanted to play and have fun with my friends,” she commented.

While the final whistle blew on her playing career in 2009, the lessons she learned from her coaches and teammates have continued.
In her first job after college, DeGisi Lennon went right back to her “team” mindset that helped the Cavaliers claim the 2009 CSAC title.

“At Cabrini, I learned so much about how to work with a variety of personalities and finding my place in our team,” she commented. “It’s no different in the real world. I felt like I was captain again.”
