Senior field hockey student-athlete Lindsey Atzert has been named CabriniAthletics.com Student Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 23. The senior was instrumental in three Cabrini victories last week.
The senior scored her first four games of the season last week, and they all just happened to come in one game. Atzert tallied a career-high four goals in the Cavaliers’ 7-3 home win against Widener, a feat that has not been accomplished since at least 2002.
Atzert broke a 1-1 tie in the game’s 20th minute for her first of the day. The other three came during a nine minute stretch that secured the win for the Blue and White.
With the score tied at three in the 55th minute, Atzert collected a pass from fellow senior Taylor McGarvey and fired it past Widener’s goalkeeper for the eventual game-winning goal. Just 30 seconds later, Atzert was back in front of the Widener goal, redirecting a pass from senior Katie Savage into the net.
Atzert iced the game in the 64th minute when a pass from freshman Kerry Anne Farrell found her in scoring position.
With those four goals, Atzert joins junior Stephanie Toomey atop the team’s goal scoring list with four. She is also tied with Farrell for the team’s lead in points with nine.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday when they host Stevens Institute of Technology at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
