Ken Prothero

Ken Prothero begins his ninth season as the head women’s soccer coach at Cabrini in 2010.

In 2009, Prothero led the Cavaliers to their fourth conference championship and the first in six seasons. The team entered the playoffs on a 10-game win streak and earned the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament’s No. 2 seed.

In the semifinals, Cabrini topped Centenary College with a convincing 3-1 victory, but lost senior captain Sabina DeGisi with a severely broken leg. Even without the team’s all-time leading scorer, Cabrini captured the championship with a 1-0 overtime victory against No. 1 seed Marywood University, avenging last season's disappointing result in penalty kicks.

The title was one of four earned by Cabrini teams in one day. Field hockey, men’s soccer and volleyball were also crowned CSAC champions within hours of each other.

The Blue & White also earned the program’s second appearance in the NCAA Tournament before losing to John Hopkins University, the No. 6 ranked team in the nation.

After a slow start due to injuries, Cabrini ended the 2009 campaign with a total of 14 wins, which included 11 shutouts. The season was highlighted by a run of 826 consecutive minutes - more than nine games - without allowing a goal, the nation’s second-longest stretch.

From 2006-08, Prothero mentored the Cavaliers to three straight appearances in the semifinals of the CSAC Tournament. In 2006, he earned the conference's coach of the year award after leading the team to one of the most improved seasons in the nation.

In just his second season at Cabrini in 2003, Prothero guided the Blue & White to the CSAC title and to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

Prothero begins the 2010 campaign with a 68-74-14 career record.

Prior to taking the reins as head coach at Cabrini, Prothero served two seasons (2000-01) as an assistant with the Cavaliers under Dianne Pierangeli. He also spent two seasons (1998-99) as an assistant with the men’s soccer team at Arcadia University.

Prothero began his coaching career under Marty Berman at the Pirate Soccer Camps in West Orange, NJ while still in college. Coach Berman, who has over 300 victories at the helm of Seton Hall Prep, was a major influence on him as a player and development as a coach.

Before moving to the Philadelphia area, Prothero also coached under Jake Mull at Newton High School in Sussex County, N.J., the Cosmos Soccer Camps with Pepe Pinton, and several club teams with Scott Bonagura from Wallenpaupack High School .

Prothero holds National, State, and Goalkeeper Level I & II Coaching Diplomas from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Prothero is also a trainer and camp staff member with Coerver Coaching, started by the great Dutch coach Wiel Coerver. his coaching method emphasizes foot skills, one-on-one attacking moves and change of directions.

Prothero was a goalkeeper at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. He graduated in 1996 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in computer science. He played soccer and baseball at Glen Ridge High School in northern New Jersey.

Prothero lives and teaches a few miles down the road from Cabrini with his wife and three-year-old daughter.
