It didn't take Cabrini long to find out if
Ken Prothero could get the job done. He took over as head coach in the summer of 2002 and just 15 months later, he'd gotten it done.
In 2003, in just his second year as a collegiate head coach, Ken Prothero and his underdog Cabrini squad came out of nowhere to win the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) title and reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
Seeded fourth entering the PAC Tournament, the Cavaliers swept three playoff contests by a combined score of 8-1.
In six seasons, Prothero has coached the Cavaliers to a 44-60-11 mark, including an 11-6-3 overall record and 8-1-1 PAC mark in 2006. Cabrini has twice advanced to the conference semifinals in the last two campaigns.
Prothero, 34, took over the reins in 2002 after two years as a Cabrini assistant. Prior to joining the Cavalier staff in 2000, he spent two years as an assistant coach/goalkeeper trainer with the men’s team at Beaver College - now Arcadia University.
Prothero, who became a goalie in high school, has earned Goalkeeper Level I & II, State, and National Coaching Diplomas from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He has coached at the youth and high school levels in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Currently, Prothero works as a trainer for Coerver Coaching USA and is an avid player who still competes year-round.
At Glen Ridge High, Prothero was an honorable-mention all-state goalie as a senior in 1991. He went on to play four years of Division I soccer at Bucknell University, graduating in 1996 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a minor in computer science.
Prothero teaches at an elementary school near Cabrini and lives with his wife Wendy in Berwyn, Pa.
