RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's tennis team battled to a narrow 5-4 loss Saturday at the Dixon Courts against Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Gwynedd-Mercy College.
Senior Dina DiTaranto claimed her 10th singles win of the season, recording a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 1 position against Davida Phillips. Nicole Pontious earned a 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 win at the No. 3 position versus Erin Fallon, posting her ninth singles win of the season.
Freshman Alexis DiCamillo won in three sets, tallying a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory at the fifth spot against Ashley Bowie.
Rookie Michelle Lettman's 11-match win streak in singles play came to end. Lettman dropped a 3-6, 7-5, 3-6 decision at the No. 6 position against Amy Rock.
Pontious and sophomore Stephanie Tighe played at the No. 1 spot in doubles competition and posted an 8-7 (7-4) win against Alana Rumpel and Chelsea Donde. Pontious and Tighe are a team-best 10-3 overall in doubles play in 2008.
Freshman Kourtney Spak made her collegiate debut, partnering with DiTaranto at the No. 3 position for doubles play.
The Cavaliers played without the services of senior Christine Telling due to an injury suffered during warm-ups. Telling is expected to make a full recovery.
Cabrini (10-3, 5-1) will look to rebound Monday, October 6 at home against Philadelphia Biblical University. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
