Men's Tennis Team Season Ends at CSAC Tournament

Sophomore John Van Wagner claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 singles position Friday at the CSAC Tournament.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. –
The Cabrini men's tennis team saw its team season come to a close Friday at the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament against second-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy College. The Griffins earned a 5-3 win, ending the third-seeded Cavaliers' bid for their first conference crown since the 2002 season.

Cabrini captured victories at the No. 2 and 3 positions in singles play, led by senior Justin Walsh's 6-4, 6-0 win against Jared Morgan. The triumph was Walsh's team-best 11th of the season and seventh straight.

Sophomore John Van Wagner claimed a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot, downing Eric Trinkle. Van Wagner improved his singles mark to 5-8 overall.

Walsh and doubles partner sophomore Mingkuang Luo totaled an 8-3 win at the No. 1 spot, topping Trinkle and Scott Campbell. After losing their first match of the season, Walsh and Luo have ripped off six consecutive victories.

The Griffins closed doubles play with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Gwynedd-Mercy sealed the victory with singles triumphs at No. 4 and 5 from Lou Vessels and Ryan Murray, respectively.

GMC advances to meet top-seeded Neumann College in Saturday's conference championship. The Knights downed fourth-seeded Marywood University, 5-0, in the day's first match.

Cabrini's (6-7) season continues Sunday, April 26 and Monday, April 27 in the CSAC Individual Championships at the Springfield Healthplex.
