PHILADELPHIA – For the second time in three seasons, the Cabrini women's tennis team has defeated Division II Philadelphia University, today doing it away from home, 5-4. Junior Michelle Lettmann led the Cavaliers' charge to victory with two victories overall.
Lettmann notched her team-best fourth singles win of the season at the No. 4 position, downing Elizabeth Verbits, 6-4, 6-0. She also teamed classmate Alexis DiCamillo in doubles play, earning a 9-8 triumph at the No. 2 spot versus Verbits and Daniela Rodriguez.
Freshman Victoria Nastala posted her second singles victory of the season, topping Kate Brennan in the No. 5 position, 7-5, 6-3. Nastala was part of a forfeit win in doubles action in the No. 3 hole with fellow rookie Adriana Scotto.
Scotto also claimed a forfeit victory in singles action at the No. 6 spot.
Freshman Katie Kennedy, sophomore Gabriela Durand (retired) and DiCamillo each suffered their first losses of the season in singles play in positions No. 1 through 3, respectively.
Today's victory comes two years removed from knocking off the Rams, 6-3, on Sept. 8, 2008. It also avenges an 8-1 setback at the hands of Philadelphia University last season.
Cabrini (4-0, 2-0) resumes its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) schedule on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Keystone College. Match time with the Giants is set for 1 p.m.
