EASTON, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's tennis team lost its Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament final match 5-3 to Gwynedd-Mercy College at Northwood Racquet & Fitness Club in Easton, Pa. This was the second consecutive year and third time in the last four years that Cabrini's season has ended in the CSAC Final.
For the second consecutive day, the Cavaliers dropped two of the three doubles matches. Cabrini's number one pair sophomores Katie Kennedy and Adriana Scotto lost to Rachel Fein and Jessica Scarpello 8-4. At number two, senior Alexis DiCamillo and freshman Samantha Trumbo fell 8-5 to Taylor Michener and Gabby Muller.
Cabrini's doubles victory came at the number three flight where senior Michelle Lettmann and sophomore Victoria Nastala toppled Caroline Lockwood and Chelsea Jones 8-6.
The Cavaliers were hoping to have the same mojo they did in yesterday's semifinal round when they won four of the six singles matches en route to defeating Marywood University. Unfortunately, today's mountain was too much for the Cavaliers to climb.
Cabrini tied the match at two after Lettmann won her final collegiate match 6-2, 6-2 at number three singles. At number one singles, Fein defeated Kennedy 6-3, 6-2. The Blue and White would again pull even when Scotto completed her defeat of Lockwood at number four.
With three matches to play, the two teams found themselves even. Gwynedd pulled ahead after the number five match where Jones defeated Trumbo 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile, Scapello slid past DiCamillo at number two singles 0-6, 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the win.
Dicamillo ends her Cabrini career with a singles record of 47-19 and 45-25 in doubles. The senior was a five-time All-CSAC player in singles and doubles. DiCamillo finished second at number five singles and number three doubles (with partner Michelle Lettmann) in the 2008 CSAC Individual Championships.
Lettmann ends her career in style, going 16-0 in singles during her final season. Overall, the senior went 50-11 in singles and 44-19 in doubles. Lettmann won the CSAC individual Championship at number six singles 2008 and with DiCamillo finished second at number three doubles. She was a six-time All-CSAC honoree, including First Team single and Honorable Mention for doubles in 2011.
The Cavaliers finish their 2011 campaign with a record of 13-3.
