Men's Tennis Nabs Final CSAC Playoff Spot, Downs Gwynedd-Mercy College, 6-3

The Cabrini men's tennis team has won three of its last four matches en route to a berth in the CSAC Tournament.

RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini men's tennis team capped its sprint to the finish line this afternoon with a 6-3 victory versus Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Gwynedd-Mercy College in its regular season finale at the Dixon Courts. The Cavaliers earned victories in three of their final four matches en route to the fourth and final seed in the CSAC Tournament.

Juniors Justin Lutteroty and Jake Neary keyed Cabrini's efforts in singles play against the Griffins, emerging victorious at the No. 4 and No. 5 matches, respectively. Junior Nate Martin also claimed a singles triumph at the No. 3 position.

Lutteroty won his sixth straight contest and eighth in the last 10 outings with a 6-1, 6-0 victory versus Tim Munsey at the No. 4 position. He owns a team-best nine singles wins in 2011.

Neary also extended his win streak in singles competition to six matches with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 position against Tom Dempsey. He was named the CSAC Player of the Week earlier Monday.

Martin earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 3 match against Chris Keown. Senior Joe Stafford won by default at the No. 6 position.

In doubles play, the Blue & White jumped out to a 2-1 advantage with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Lutteroty and junior Ian Monson tallied an 8-6 victory at No. 1 against Keown and Jared Morgan. Neary and Stafford earned a default win at No. 3.

The victory advances the Cavaliers to the CSAC Tournament for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

No. 4 Cabrini (5-12, 4-3 CSAC) begins its quest for a CSAC title versus No. 1 seed Marywood University on Friday, May, 6. Match time against the Pacers is to be determined.
