RADNOR, Pa. – After playing its first two matches on the road, the Cabrini women's tennis team returned to its familiar surroundings at the Dixon Courts and opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play with its first win of the season. The Cavaliers downed Rosemont College 9-0 to improve to 1-2 on the year and 1-0 in league play.
The Blue and White took control of the match in the early going, posting wins in all three doubles matches. Senior
Katie Kennedy teamed with sophomore
Nicole Broccolino for an 8-0 win at number one singles. Junior
Samantha Trumbo and sophomore
Mia Scocozzo teamed for an 8-5 victory, while senior Victoria Naastala and freshman
Elena Conway scored an 8-2 win at number three doubles.
The Cavaliers continued its solid play into the afternoon's single matches, winning all six matches in straight sets. Kennedy swept the number one flight with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Broccolino earned a 6-1, 6-4 win, while Trumbo earned a 6-3, 6-1 decision in th enumber three match.
Conway dropped just one game in recording her first collegiate win, a 6-1, 6-0 win at number four singles. Sophomore
Mackenzie Murray earned a 7-5, 6-3 win at number five, as Nastala scored a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six.
The victory also marked the first for Cabrini's first year head coach, Chris Brown.
The Cavaliers have little time to celebrate, as they are slated to host Cedar Crest College on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at the Dixon Courts.
