ASTON, Pa. – The Cabrini women's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match today and improved to 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with an 8-1 victory at Neumann University.
The match also marked a return for Cabrini head coach Chris Brown who played his collegiate tennis at Neumann, where he was named CSAC Player of the Year three times from 2009-2011.
The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead, taking two of the three double matches. Senior Katie Kennedy and sophomore Nicole Broccolino improved to 6-0 with an 8-4 win at number one doubles. In the third flight match, senior Victoria Nastala and freshman Elena Conway aired for a 9-8 win, their fourth in a row.
The Blue and White took control of the match as the action moved to singles play, capturing wins in each of the six flights. Kennedy remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-3, 6-0 win at number one singles. Broccolino evened her record at 3-3 with today's 6-4, 6-3 number two singles win.
After dropping the first set 6-3, junior Samantha Trumbo rallied to take the second and third sets 6-1 at number three singles. Conway posted her fourth consecutive win, taking the number four singles match 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Mackenzie Murray joined Conway with a fourth straight win, earning a 9-8 superset win at number five singles. In the number six flight, Nastala improved to 3-2 on the season with an 8-4 win.
The Blue and White will return to action on Friday when they welcome Immaculata to the Dixon Courts. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
