RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's tennis team closed its regular season today with a marathon 6-3 loss to Gwynedd Mercy today at the Dixon Courts.
The loss dashed the Blue and White's hopes of earning an undefeated Colonial States Athletic Conference slate, dropping the club to 12-5 overall and 9-1 in the conference.
Prior to the match, the Cavaliers celebrated the career of its lone senior,
Samantha Trumbo. A three-time All-Colonial States Athletic Conference honoree, Trumbo has amassed more than 65 singles and doubles victories during her four year career in the Blue and White, while leading the club to CSAC postseason appearances in 2011, 2013 and an upcoming appearance this season.
The Cavaliers started out strong winning their number one doubles match, before dropping the next two. Juniors
Terra McHenry and
Tori Yeich captured the 8-6 victory in number one doubles.
In singles play, the Blue and White won just two of six matches. McHenry's solid play carried over from her doubles match as she earned a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 number one singles victory. Sophomore
Elena Conway won her number five singles match, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 to stay perfect in conference play.
Despite the loss, the Cavaliers had already secured their place in the 2014 CSAC Tournament. Cabrini will face an opponent yet to be determined in a semifinal match-up on Friday at a time to be announced. The tournament will be played at Legacy Youth Tennis and Education in Philadelphia.
