RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's tennis team scored its first victory of the year, as it celebrated Senior Day. The Cavaliers topped Immaculata 8-1 today at the Dixon Courts, to improve to 1-10 overall and 1-4 in the CSAC.
Prior to today's match, the Cavaliers took a minute to honor its lone senior,
Joe Halbherr. The criminology major is completing his second season on the men's tennis team after playing four years of men's soccer.
The Blue and White got off to a great start, earning victories in all three doubles matches. Juniors
Anthony DiCicco and
Sean Neary scored an 8-2 victory at number one singles. Sophomore
Colin Kilroy paired with freshman
Joe Pacifico for a 9-8 (8-6) win in the number two doubles slot, while brothers Joe and
Mike Halbherr posted an 8-4 victory at number three doubles.
The Blue and White's momentum continued as the matched changed to singles play. After dropping the second set, DiCicco battled back to take the number one singles match 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Paccfico earned a straight set 6-2, 6-1 win at number two, while Neary took the number three singles match 6-2, 6-0.
Kilroy posted a 7-5, 6-4 win at number four singles, marking the sophomore's first win of the year. Freshman
Mike Halbherr has now won two of his last three singles matches after earning a 6-1, 6-4 victory at number six singles. Cabrini's lone loss came at number five singles, as
Joe Halbherr suffered a heartbreaking marathon loss, dropping the third set 13-11.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Monday when they host Bryn Athyn College (0-3) in nonconference action. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
