RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team took sole possession of first place in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with tonight's 71-40 win over the visiting Immaculata Mighty Macs.
The victory extends the Cavaliers' win streak to eight games and improves the club to 14-3 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the CSAC. The win also marks the 99th for Cabrini head coach
Kate Pearson.
Five Cavaliers scored at least eight points on the night, led by senior
Amber Keys who posted her 11th double-double of the season. The senior paired 17 points and 12 rebounds to go with two assists, two steals and three blocked shots.
Sophomore
Tayler Holmes added 13 points and five boards, while senior
Megan Decker recorded her second double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 boards. The senior also tallied five assists and three steals.
The Blue and White put on a dominant defensive performance in tonight's win, holding Immaculata to just 26.7% shooting on 16-60 from the floor. The Mighty Macs also hit just one of their 11 three point attempts on the night.
Cabrini also dominated the glass, outrebounding Immaculata 60-33, including 25-11 on the offensive boards leading to a 24-8 advantage in second chance points.
The Cavaliers used a 12-2 spurt in the game's opening five minutes to take control of the action. Cabrini systematically extended its lead to 35-19 after 20 minutes of play after hitting nearly 45% from the field in the first half. The Blue and White also turned 10 Mighty Mac first half turnovers into 11 points.
Cabrini showed no let-up after the break, as it held the Mighty Macs to just nine second half field goals.
Juniors
Dana Peterson and
Meghan Martin tallied eight points for the Cavaliers. Peterson added four rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Martin secured four boards.
Fellow junior
Kristina Startare recorded six points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Senior Brittany Merkle led the Mighty Macs (9-7, 6-1 CSAC) with 14 points.
The Cavaliers return to action on Saturday, as they visit Neumann University (7-9, 4-3 CSAC). Game time is slated for 1 p.m. in Aston, Pa.
