ASTON, Pa. – Five Cavaliers scored in double figures tonight, as the Cabrini men's basketball team snapped its three game losing skid with an 80-71 victory at Neumann University. The victory improved the Blue and White to 10-9 overall and 7-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Freshman
Tyheim Monroe led the Cavaliers with 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the victory. Senior
Aaron Walton-Moss recorded his 13th double-double of the season, pairing 18 points and 11 rebounds to go with his five assists and two steals.
Senior
Vinny Walls added 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals off the bench, while sophomore
Ronny Paden tallied 12 points and seven rebounds, both season highs. Freshman
Jair Green recorded 11 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots.
While the Knights grabbed an early lead, a Walls three pointer spurred the Cavaliers to a 16-2 run midway through opening period. A Green dunk and another Walls triple put the Blue and White ahead 24-15 at the 10 minute mark of the first half.
The Cabrini offense came to a halt in the final four minutes of the stanza, as Neumann closed the half on a 17-2 run to build a 37-31 lead at the break.
Cabrini turned up the defense to open the second half, as it held the Knights to just five points over the first 8:23 of the period. Meanwhile, led by eight Monroe points, the Cavaliers opened the half on a 21-5 spurt, building a 52-42 advantage on a Paden three pointer with 11:10 to play.
Neumann cut the Cabrini lead to five points but minutes later, a pair of Green free throws extended the lead back to double figures where it would remain.
After allowing the Knights shoot 47% in the first half, the Cavaliers tightened the screws after the break, holding Neumann to under 40% and forcing 11 Neumann turnovers.
Andrew Moye led Neumann (10-8, 7-4 CSAC) with 22 points and nine rebounds, while DeShawn Lowman paired 17 points and nine rebounds.
Cabrini will return to Nerney Field House on Saturday, as it hosts Centenary College (9-8, 6-4 CSAC) in the second half of its Alumni Day doubleheader. The Cavaliers and Cyclones will take the floor at 4 p.m., with the men's basketball alumni game to follow at 6 p.m.
