RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team extended its current win streak to 11 games today, as it scored a convincing 93-42 win over the visiting Baptist Bible College Defenders at Nerney Field House.
The victory improved the Cavaliers to 17-3 on the season, including 11-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Today also marked the club's annual Alumni Day. Today's Cabrini games were sandwiched by the Blue and White alumni games. The women's alumni game opened the day, while the men's game will close the day's action.
Highlighting the afternoon was the halftime introduction of Cabrini Hall of Famer Janet Cobb Ryerson. The 1959 Cabrini alum was the captain of the College's first women's basketball team in 1957-58 and a member of the inaugural class of Cabrini's Hall of Fame.
Ten Cavaliers scored at least seven points in today's win, with four scoring in double figures. Freshman
Kate Skalski led the Blue and White with a career high 13 points off the bench. Senior
Megan Decker added 12 points to go with a season high six steals.
Sophomore
Meghan Horn tallied 11 points, while senior
Amber Keys paired 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Cavaliers scored the game's opening six points and never looked back. Leading 20-10 at the 11:55 mark, the Blue and White put the game out of reach.
Cabrini closed the first half on a 27-2 run, holding the Defenders scoreless until the final seconds of the first half. After 20 minutes, the Cavaliers held a commanding 47-12 lead.
The Blue and White built its lead with a combination of efficient offense and stifling defense. The club shot 52.4% from the floor and recorded 16 assists on 22 made field goals. The Cavaliers also forced 22 first half turnovers and converted them into 30 points.
The Cavaliers showed no let-up after the break, as the they held the Defenders to just 20 second half field goal attempts while recording 17 made field goals of its own.
For the game, Cabrini tallied a season high 27 assists on its 39 made field goals. Junior
Dana Peterson led the way with a game-high seven helpers, while freshman
Caroline Price added a season high six assists to go with her season high eight points.
Juniors
Meghan Martin and
Mo O'Connell match Price with eight points, while Martin added five rebounds and five assists. Sophomore
Renee Oliver recorded seven points and seven rebounds, as classmate
Tayler Holmes added seven points.
Freshman Callie Kitowski led Baptist Bible (1-15, 1-9 CSAC) with 16 points.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Monday as they visit Cairn University (2-12, 0-8 CSAC). Game time is slated for 6 p.m. in Langhorne, Pa.
