Women's Soccer Suffers 5-0 Loss at No. 5 Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer season came to an end tonight, as the Cavaliers suffered a 5-0 loss at No. 5 Carnegie Mellon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The loss snaps the Blue and White's 11 match unbeaten streak and closes the season with a record of 11-6-3.

Tonight's match also closed the careers of Cabrini's seven seniors, Julianna Ardire, Kaitlyn Cooper, Nicole Hallinan, Kerri Hinkelmon, Meghan Martin, Devon Miller and Dana Peterson.

Among the most successful classes in program history, these ladies have led Cabrini to 46 victories, including 35 Colonial States Athletic Conference wins and four consecutive CSAC championships.  In their 501 total appearances, they have accumulated 247 points on 95 goals and 57 assists.

Despite finding little offense in the opening 45 minutes of action, the Blue and White held the Tartans scoreless until the 30th minute, when Sienna Stritter scored the first of her two goals on the night.

Cabrini was held without a shot in the first half, while Carnegie Mellon tallied 11 shots and five corner kicks.  Sophomore goaltender Alivia Dietsch kept the Blue and White in the game, recording seven of her career high 13 saves before the halftime break.

Stritter doubled the Tartans' lead just four minutes into the second half.   Carnegie Mellon began to pull away in the 68th minute on Alli McGugan's goal.  Nicole Winegardner added goals in the 80th and 82nd minute to close the victory.

Sophomores Lisette Hrapmann and Brittany Runyen recorded Cabrini's two shots in the loss.

McGugan accounted for seven of Carnegie Mellon's 27 shots, while Stritter and Winegardner added four each.  Goaltender Katie Liston made one save, extending the program's shutout record with her 22nd career clean sheet.

Carnegie Mellon (16-1-1) will face the winner of tonight's second first round match between SUNY Oneonta and McDaniel at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15.
