GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Cabrini women's basketball team fell to 0-3on the season today, as the Cavaliers suffered an 80-53 loss to Moravian College at the Stockton University Tip-Off Tournament.
Freshman
Nomi Washington led the Blue and White with eight points, while juniors
Tayler Holmes and
Renee Oliver added seven points each. Seniors
Kristina Startare and
Meghan Martin notched six points each.
Both clubs got off to hot starts, as the clubs were tied at 17 after the first quarter. The Cavaliers built a 23-19 lead just over two minutes into the second stanza, but the Greyhounds responded, outscoring the Blue and White 15-5 the rest of the period. With a three pointer in the final seconds, Moravian carried a 36-24 lead into the halftime break.
Cabrini's deficit grew to 46-24 just two minutes into the third quarter before sophomore Carline Price scored the Cavaliers' first points of the second half with a three pointer.
The Blue and White cut its deficit back to 17 points twice in the third quarter, but a late Moravian lay-up pushed the lead to 65-39 with 10 minutes to play.
The Greyhounds took control of the action in the second and third quarters, outscoring Cabrini 19-7 and 29-15, respectively.
The Cavaliers struggled with its shooting touch in today's loss, shooting just 26.8% from the floor, including 9-40 in the second half. The Blue and White also only converted two of its 13 three point field goal attempts.
Startare, Martin and fellow senior
Mo O'Connell corralled six rebounds each, while Startare recorded a career high five steals.
Camille McPherson led the Greyhounds (3-1) with 17 points and six rebounds in just 17 minutes of action. Alexis Wright added 16 points for Moravian.
The Cavaliers will make their first home appearance on Tuesday, as they host head coach
Kate Pearson's alma mater, the University of Scranton. The opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Nerney Field House.
