RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team saw its four game win streak come to an end, as the Cavaliers suffered a 75-58 loss to the No. 22 Albright College Lions today at Nerney Field House.
The nonconference loss drops the Blue and White to 4-5 on the season.
Five Cavaliers notched at least seven points in the loss, led by senior
Meghan Martin, who poured in 12 points off the bench. Fellow senior
Kristina Startare, junior
Renee Oliver and sophomore
Sabrina Hackendorn added eight points each, while junior
Tayler Holmes chipped in with seven points.
Hackendorn also corralled a team-high eight boards, while Startare and Oliver grabbed four each.
Hackendorn netted the game's first four points before Albright responded with a 14-0 run. The Lions built an 18-9 cushion to end the first quarter, as the Cavaliers shot just 3-14.
Albright pulled away in the second period, connecting on 8-12 from the floor, including 4-5 from three point range. Meanwhile, the Blue and White's shooting struggles continued, as the club went 5-18 from the field and 1-6 from three point range.
After trailing 41-22 at the break, the Cavaliers cut their deficit to 14 points midway through the third quarter, but the Lions responded with an 8-2 spurt of their own, extending their lead to 54-34 with 2:43 left in the period.
After struggling with its shooting touch in the first half, the Blue and White connected on nearly 49% of its second half field goal attempts and outscored the Lions 36-34.
A trio of Lions notched at least 16 points for Albright (10-0), led by senior Kelecia Harris' 18 points and six boards. Sophomore Alysha Lofton paired 17 points and seven rebounds, while junior Shannon Thomas added 16 points.
Cabrini will return to the hardwood on Dec. 30, as it hosts the Cabrini Holiday Classic, featuring the Cavaliers, Eastern University, Rowan University and Widener University. Eastern (7-2) and Rowan (10-0) will open the two day event at 2 p.m., followed by the Blue and White and Widener (7-2) at 4 p.m.
