Softball Tops Falcons in Extra Innings to Capture Sweep

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team improved to 22-8 and 17-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference after today's 11-5 and 6-4 wins at Cedar Crest.

In game one, senior Becca Miles collected a pair of RBI in the first inning, after her single to left field scored junior Kaitlyn Cooper and sophomore Amber Dietrich. Freshman Alexandria Ramos added another two runs for the Blue and White, as the rookie's single to center field plated Miles and sophomore Lindsay Savar

The Blue and White stretched the lead to 8-0 following a four run, four hit second inning. Dietrich reached on an error by the shortstop and came around to score on Cooper's double to left field. Miles contributed a single to right field, sending Cooper home to score. Diegel crossed home plate following a wild pitch, while sophomore Natalie Giannascoli's sacrifice fly scored Miles to end the scoring.

The Falcons tallied a pair of runs in the third but the Cavaliers answered with a three run fourth inning. Diegel reached first on an error, while freshman Sarah Beckner drew a walk. Savar stepped in and crushed a three run home run to give the Cavaliers an 11-2 lead.

Freshman Jess Giordano surrendered three runs in the fifth but held the Falcons scoreless the rest of the way to earn her sixth win this season.  The rookie pitched all seven innings for her fifth complete game on the year and added three strikeouts in the win.

The Blue and White combined for 14 hits, ad Cooper, Miles, Savar and Ramos each contributed a pair of base knocks.  Savar and Miles also added three RBI each.

The Falcons scored first in the second game, notching a pair of runs on three hits in the second inning. In the third, freshman Christine Ferraro came home to score after an infield error. A two run home run in the bottom half extended the Falcon lead to 4-1.

With the bases loaded in the fourth, Dietrich was hit by a pitch, sending Savar home to score.

After a scoreless bottom half, the Blue and White added two runs in the fifth to even the score. Miles and Savar reached on singles and crossed home plate following Giannascoli's single to right field.

The Cavaliers and Falcons were forced into an extra inning, following a scoreless sixth and seventh. With two outs and two on, Dietrich and Ferraro scored after a Cedar Crest error.

Sophomore Taylor Gallagher held the Falcons scoreless in the bottom half to see the Blue and White to victory.  Freshman Kaitlyn Hohman went 2.1 innings, surrendered four runs and allowed just five hits, before Gallagher took over. The sophomore threw 5.2 innings, struck out four batters and held the Falcons scoreless.

The Cavaliers were out hit 13-11 and failed to record an extra base hit but that didn't stop them from capturing the win in this one. Giannascoli went 3-4 in the batter's box and tallied a pair of RBI, while Ferraro and Dietrich combined for four hits in the nightcap.

The Cavaliers will travel to Clarks Summit, Pa. tomorrow for a CSAC doubleheader against Baptist Bible College (3-23, 2-16 CSAC). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
