Game Recap: Basketball (Men) |

Monroe's Career Game Leads Cavaliers to Win at Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. – Sophomore Tyheim Monroe paired career highs of 28 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Cabrini men's basketball team to an 80-72 victory at Keystone College.

The sophomore shot 10-15 from the field and 8-10 from the free throw line while playing 39 minutes, as the Cavaliers improved to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.

Sophomore Deryl Bagwell tallied 18 points off the bench, while classmate Jair Green notched 15 points and senior Ace Henry 10.

The opening 20 minutes marked a tight affair that featured 15 lead changes and three ties.  While Keystone's largest lead of three points came early in the game, Cabrini led by as many as four points for just over 90 seconds through the opening 16:30 of the first half.

Green's jumper at the 3:13 mark capped a 7-0 run that pushed Cabrini's lead to 34-28.  Following a Keystone bucket, Bagwell drained a three pointer on the Cavaliers' next possession to extend the lead to 37-30.  The Blue and White cushion remained at five, as Cabrini carried a 39-34 lead into the halftime break.

A Henry three immediately expanded the Blue and White lead to eight points before Keystone battled back to keep the Cavaliers within reach.  With 11:05 to play, the Giants trailed by just three points before the Cavaliers used a 7-0 spurt to build a 59-49 lead.

While the Cabrini lead grew as large as 70-57 on another Henry triple and Green lay-up on back to back possessions, the Cavaliers never allowed Keystone to get within six points over the last 10:47 of the game.

Among the keys to the victory was the Blue and White's defensive effort.  Cabrini held Keystone to just 3-20 from three point range and turned 15 Giants turnovers into 20 points.

Deion Monroe led Keystone (0-9, 0-4 CSAC) with 16 points, while ShaShawn Drayton paired 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Cavaliers will return to the familiar surroundings of Nerney Field House on Saturday, as they welcome the Centenary College Cyclones (8-4, 4-1 CSAC).  The CSAC tilt will tip at 1 p.m.
