BETHLEHEM, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball team returned from a 15 day layoff tonight, making the short trip to Bethlehem, Pa. while the trip was short, the step up in competition was huge, as the Cavaliers faced Division I Lehigh University.
The Blue and White held its own against the preseason Patriot League favorites, suffering a 93-72 loss. With the loss, the Cavaliers fell to 5-3, while the Mountain Hawks improved to 6-5.
Six Cavaliers recorded at least six points on the night, led by junior
Tyheim Monroe's 35th consecutive double-double. The junior paired 17 points and 14 rebounds, while sophomore
Ivan Robinson added 16 points, five assists and three steals.
Despite trailing wire to wire, Cabrini remained within reach for much of the first half. Midway through the first half, the Mountain Hawks found their touch from three point range, connecting on 8-15 from deep.
The Cavaliers shot just north of 36% from the field, including 3-12 from three point range, as they saw their deficit expand from 29-23 at the 7:24 mark to 52-36 at the half.
Lehigh's lead grew to 25 early in the second half, but the Blue and White responded with an 11-1 spurt to pull within 62-47 with 15 minutes to play. Cabrini could not get any closer, as the Mountain Hawks pushed their lead back to 28 points at the eight minute mark.
Cabrini outscored Lehigh 40-37 in the second half after shooting nearly 45% from the field after the halftime break, draining five of its 14 second half triple attempts.
Junior
Joe Mostardi added 10 points for Cabrini, while classmates
Kane McGovern and
DeVahnte Mosley chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively.
Five Mountain Hawks scored in double figures, led by Austin Price's 18 points. Pat Andree paired 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Kahron Ross notched 10 assists.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Dec. 30, when they return to Bethlehem for the Roosevelts 21st Greyhound Classic at Moravian College.
Cabrini will face Montclair State (5-5) on Dec. 30 and the host Greyhounds (7-3) on New Year's Eve.
