Cabrini set a tone in the first quarter, as it allowed Cairn just eight field goal attempts and forced 11 turnovers in the opening 10 minutes. Offensively, the Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead, as the club used a 12-0 run to build a 10 point lead late in the first quarter. Sophomore
Kate Skalski's three pointer gave the Blue and White a comfortable 19-9 lead after one period.
The Cavaliers removed any doubt about today's outcome with a dominant second quarter. Cabrini shot 11-20 from the floor, with Oliver and O'Connell combining for 14 of the club's 25 points in the stanza.
On the other side of the floor, Cairn mustered just eight field goal attempts, grabbed just four total rebounds and committed nine turnovers in the 10 minute quarter. Skalski again was money late in the frame, as O'Connell found her for another triple in the waning seconds of the quarter, extending Cabrini's lead to 44-19.
The halftime break did nothing to slow Cabrini's flow, as the Cavaliers outscored Cairn 22-10, with Hackendorn and Martin combining for 11 of those points. The Blue and White also continued its dominant defensive effort, forcing six turnovers, while allowing just 10 Highlander field goal attempts.
While the Cavaliers have surrendered less than 51 points in seven of its last eight games, today might have been its best and most consistent defensive effort, as it marked the first time this season the Blue and White has surrendered 10 or less points in all four quarters.
Cabrini dominated the lane to the tune of a 56-16 advantage in points in the paint. Cabrini also turned its season high 28 offensive rebounds into 20 points, while converting Cairn's 36 miscues into 36 points.
Senior Amie Eppolito and junior Devon Rink led Cairn (5-16, 4-9 CSAC) with nine points each, while sophomore Kendra Stum paired seven points and seven rebounds.
Today's victory sets up Wednesday's showdown, as Cabrini will visit Gwynedd Mercy (17-4, 11-1 CSAC) at 7 p.m.
