Women's Lacrosse Rally Falls Short at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Cavaliers erased a four goal second half deficit and pulled within one goal three times in the second half, but a late Haverford rally sent the Cabrini women's lacrosse team to a 14-10 loss.  

The Blue and White fell to 0-2 on the season after its first action in more than two weeks, while Haverford improved to 2-2.

Sophomore Jackie Neary posted a career day, scoring her first career hat trick with three free position goals and a career best four points on the day.  The sophomore also corralled five ground balls, controlled three draws and caused three turnovers.

Juniors Katie Lasater, Allie Vallen and Jenn Robinson added two goals each for the Cavaliers, while junior Jess Breuning also recorded a goal and a team high four draw controls.

Robinson also paired four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while freshman Emma Rodner-Tims caused two turnovers.

Junior goaltender Megan Barlow suffered the loss despite recording eight saves, grabbing four ground balls and causing a pair of turnovers.

Haverford built an early lead, scoring the game's first two goals before the Cavaliers evened the score on unassisted tallies by Robinson and Neary in a 59 second span.  The Fords regained the lead but Vallen's second goal of the campaign leveled the score with 16:03 left in the period.

Seconds later, Haverford again grabbed the lead.  Robinbson netted her second goal at the 12:52 mark, tying the game at 4-4.  The Cavaliers took their first lead of the game with 7:40 left in the first half on Breuning's third goal of the season.

Haverford closed the half with a flurry, netting two late goals, retaking a 6-5 lead with a goal in the final minute of the first half.  The Fords carried thee momentum into the second half, extending its run to five unanswered goals to build a 9-5 lead with 23:54 to play.

The Blue and White began its comeback with three consecutive goals in a span of four minutes, as goals by Neary, Lasater and Vallen pulled Cabrini within 9-8 at the 17:26 mark.  The teams exchanged goals over the next several minutes, with Neary and Lasater finding the back of the net to keep the Cavalier within one goal.

Lasater's fifth goal of the season left Cabrini in an 11-10 hole with 7:11 to play.  The Fords regained their two goal lead less than 20 seconds later, but the Cavaliers could not respond, as Haverford sealed the game with two goals in the final five minutes.

Sarina Manetta led Haverford with five goals and an assist, while Maura Grant netted three goals.  Goaltender Megan Chenworth posted 14 saves in the win.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Tuesday, when Notre Dame of Maryland University (0-1) visits Edith Robb Dixon Field in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both teams.  The opening draw is slated for 4 p.m.
