RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team punched its ticket for its 19th appearance in the Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game with today's resounding 21-5 victory over Immaculata University in the semifinal round of the CSAC Tournament.
With the win, the Cavaliers will play for their fifth consecutive league title and 19th championship overall in the 20 years of the program. The Blue and White will host the title game on Saturday at a time yet to be determined.
Number one seed Cabrini will face the winner of tonight's other semifinal between number two seed Neumann and third seeded Marywood.
Sophomore
Sasha Wozniak led the Cavaliers' offense and entered the record books in the process. The sophomore paired four goals and four assists, matching a career high with eight points. Her first goal of the day came less than two minutes into the action and marked the 100th goal of her career, the 10th player in program history to accomplish the feat.
Juniors
Jess Breuning and
Allie Vallen joined Wozniak with four goals, while both added an assist. Sophomore
Jackie Neary notched a career high five points, including a career best three assists. Junior
Katie Lasater paired two goals and two helpers in the win.
Junior goaltender
Megan Barlow secured the win, pairing seven saves and a team high five ground balls. The Blue and White caused 14 turnovers in the victory, with senior
Mo O'Connell and sophomore
Gabby Lee accounting for four each. O'Connell also controlled seven of Cabrini's 16 draws, while Lee scored twice.
Cabrini jumped out to a commanding lead in the game's opening minutes, recording five goals in less than four minutes. Breuning opened the scoring with a free position shot just 20 seconds into the game. Seconds
later, Neary connected with Vallen to give the Blue and White a 2-0 lead less than 45 seconds after the opening whistle.
The Mighty Macs briefly interrupted the Cavaliers' scoring run, as senior Shannon Neill put Immaculata on the board. Cabrini responded with five unanswered goals, extending its lead to 10-1 with just south of 14 minutes left in the half.
The Cavaliers tallied the final four goals of the opening stanza, as Breuning's third goal of the day gave the Blue and White a 14-2 lead at the break.
Halftime did nothing to slow the Cavaliers' momentum, as they continued the scoring run with five consecutive goals to open the second half, including an eight minute stretch early in the frame that saw Wozniak post two goals and two assists.
Sophomore Rosemarie Reitman led Immaculata (8-11) with two goals. Classmate Brittany Whalen added a goal, four draw controls and three ground balls, while junior Bridget Polansky notched a game high six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior goaltender Elizabeth McBride recorded four saves in the loss.
