READING, PA – The Cabrini men's tennis team opened its fall 2016 season today with a trip to Reading, PA to face Alvernia University. The match came down to the final few points, but in the end, the Cavaliers suffered a disappointing 5-4 loss.
The Blue and White got off to a hot start, capturing two of the three doubles points. Senior
Sean Jaeger and junior
Alijah Broadnax combined for an 8-4 win at number one doubles, while the freshman duo of
Charles LaMantia and
Matthew DiMaria earned an 8-6 win at the number two flight.
Cabrini carried its 2-1 lead into the doubles matches, but could only add two more points.
Jaeger continued his winning ways with a 6-3, 6-4 win at number two singles. LaMantia required a little more work to score his first career singles victory, as the rookie took the number three singles match 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
While the Blue and White lost the numbers one, four and five singles matches in straight sets, sophomore
Nick Scaramuzza took the number six match to a third set, losing the tiebreaker 10-4.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Monday, when they welcome Arcadia University to the Dixon Tennis Courts. First serve is slated for 3:30pm.
