Cavaliers Find Scoring Touch in 84-51 Win over Neumann

RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers remained among the ranks of the unbeaten in the Colonial States Athletic Conference standings with tonight's resounding 84-51 victory over Neumann at Nerney Field House.

The win improved the Blue and White to 5-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while the Knights fell to 5-6 and 1-2 in the league.

Of the 10 players who saw action for Cabrini, nine marked the scoring or rebounding columns. Junior Myonie Williamson led the way with a career high 22 points, while freshman Erin Dodds posted 16 points, including a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line.

Senior Renee Oliver notched her second career double-double, pairing 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Sophomore Nomi Washington added 11 points despite being limited to 14 points due to foul trouble.

The Cavaliers shot a blistering 59.3% from the field, the team's best shooting performance since an 80-52 win at Neumann on Feb. 8, 2012 when it connected on 60.3% of its attempts. The Blue and White also attempted just eight three point attempts, its fewest since it lost to then No. 1 Thomas More on Dec. 28, 2014.

Cabrini jumped out to a commanding lead in the first quarter, as it shot 76.9% from the floor. The Knight hit an early three pointer but the Cavaliers responded with a 12-2 spurt and never looked back.  Junior Kate Skalski's triple in the final possession of the first quarter gave the Blue and White a 25-13 lead after the first quarter.

The Cavaliers' cushion expanded to 15 points early in the second quarter on an Oliver lay-up but Cabrini could not pull away.  The Knights battled back, pulling within 37-30 on senior AALiya Hayes' offensive rebound and put back in the final minute of the half. Williamson's lay-up to beat the buzzer sent the team's into the halftime break with Cabrini owning a 39-30 advantage.

After shooting just 6-16 in the second quarter, head coach Kate Pearson refocused the Blue and White during the break and it showed in their offensive rhythm.  The Cavaliers missed a total of four shots in the third quarter, going 10-13 from the field and 8-9 from the free throw line en route to a 29 point outburst.

Cabrini held Neumann scoreless in the opening 4:24 of the third quarter, outscoring the Knight's 14-0. A Dodds' three point play pushed the lead to 56-32 midway through the frame. Dodds' second three point play of the quarter extended the lead to 65-36 with two minute left in the period.

The Blue and White turned up its defense in the fourth quarter, holding Neumann to just 4-19 shooting, never allowing Neumann to come within 25 points. A Skalski three pointer with 90 seconds to play gave Cabrini an 84-49 lead, its largest of the night.

Skalski finished the night with nine points, draining three of her five three point attempts, while freshman Cassidy Gallagher paired eight points and four rebounds. Junior Caroline Price tallied a game-high four assists.

Hayes led the Knights with 29 points, 11 rebounds and three steals, while sophomore Nafisa Saunders added nine points in the loss.

Cabrini will look to continue tonight's momentum on Saturday, when it welcomes Cedar Crest (2-8, 0-4 CSAC) to Nerney Field House in the opening game of a CSAC hoops doubleheader.

The women will open the action at 1pm, with the Cabrini men (7-4, 3-1 CSAC) slated to face Centenary (8-4, 4-1 CSAC) at 3pm.
