Men's Soccer Seasaon Ends with 2-0 Loss to #23 Johns Hopkins

GLASSBORO, NJ – Cabrini's historic NCAA Tournament run came to an end tonight, as the Cavaliers suffered a 2-0 loss to No. 23 Johns Hopkins in a second round match at Rowan University.

The loss closes the Blue and White's season with a record of 11-9-1.

Tonight's defeat also ends the careers of Cabrini's four seniors, Tim Atallah, Joe Fiore, Ben Roda and Xavier Young, a group that led the Cavaliers to 51 victories, including a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference championships and the program's first NCAA Tournament victory.

Freshman John Griffin nearly put Cabrini ahead in the seventh minute, as his shot bounced off the cross bar.  It would be the Blue and White's only shot of the opening stanza.

The Blue Jays got on the board in the in the 20th minute, as Griffin Cyphers' pass found Achim Younker.

Despite being outshot 7-1 and not recording a first half corner kick, the Cavaliers kept the game close, down only 1-0 at the half.

Johns Hopkins continued to push for a second goal, forcing the Cavaliers to continue its defensive posture that proved to be successful last night.

Unfortunately, Cabrini could not duplicate last night's results, as Johns Hopkins added its second goal in the 61st minute. Alejandro Maclean took a shot that sophomore goaltender Mike Gould saved, but Arden Chew was there to put the rebound into the back of the net.

The Cavaliers looked to get on the board late, but the Blue and White could not solve a Blue Jays defensive unit that has allowed only six goals all season.

Cabrini recorded just three shots on the night, with Roda and junior Matt Ochman notching the team's two shots on goal. Gould sufferance the loss despite posting eight saves.

Maclean and Younker combined for six of Johns Hopkins 14 shots, while Bryan See notched two saves for his 13th shutout of the season

With the win, the Blue Jays (16-1-3) will advance to their 10th NCAA Sweet 16, where they will face defending NCAA champion and No. 3 Tufts.  Game date, time and location will be announced on Monday.
