Men's Soccer Claims 10th CSAC Title with 1-0 Win over Keystone

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer team completed its incredible turnaround today, as the Cavaliers scored a 1-0 victory over Keystone College to win the 2017 Colonial States Athletic Conference championship.

With today's victory, the Blue and White improved to 10-8-1 and earned the league's automatic bid to next week's NCAA Tournament.

Cabrini will learn its fate on Monday at 1:30, when the NCAA broadcasts its Selection Show on NCAA.com.

The Cavaliers' 10th CSAC championship and second in three years comes after the team started the season 0-7-1.

The Cavaliers and Giants played an exciting brand of soccer that saw the action range from baseline to baseline.

Keystone recorded five first half shots to just two for the Blue and White, but Cabrini's sophomore goaltender Mike Gould was there, posting two of his three saves in the opening 45 minutes.

After a scoreless first half, the Blue and White began to find its rhythm. Cabrini outshot the Giants 7-3 after the break, but just one of its shots found the target. That shot proved to be the difference.

In the 72nd minute, sophomore Christopher Araujo fired a wayward shot that found freshman John Griffin, whose shot beat Keystone's senior goaltender Steven Heintz, Jr. for the day's lone goal.

The Cavaliers made Griffins' fourth goal of the season stand, as their defense stymied the Giants' offensive attack. Gould recorded his only save of the second half in the 78th minute, before the Blue and White fought off a pair of late Keystone corner kicks, including one with just 30 seconds to play.

Griffin and sophomores Dani Acevedo and Justin Barbuto recorded two shots each for the Cavaliers, while Gould's three saves helped earn his sixth shutout of the season.

Senior Ben Roda was named the CSAC Championship Game Most Valuable Player.

Freshman Talhah Netherlin led Keystone (13-5-1) with three shots, one more than junior Kouassi Kouadio.
