Radnor, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team capped their shortened Holiday Classic in style as they picked up a decisive 80-66 victory over visiting Rowan University.
A trio of Cavaliers tallied at least 10 points as freshmen
Lexi Edwards and
Ashley Tutzauer collected 18 and 14 points, respectively, while senior
Sabrina Hackendorn secured the games only double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Nomi Washington added six points, nine rebounds and three steals to stuff the stat sheet, while sophomore
Cassidy Gallagher picked a game high six assists.
The Blue and White converted 26 points off of 22 Rowan turnovers, many of which came in the fast break. The Cavs bench provided a substantial lift as well as they outscored their counterparts 30-to-6, 14 of which came off the aforementioned hand of Tutzauer in just 15 minutes of action.
With the score knotted at 12 after the first seven minutes of play, the Blue and White ripped off a 13-1 run powered by a trio of threes from Tutzauer over the final three minutes of play.
A quick basket from Hackendorn pushed the lead to 14, but the Profs responded with a short four point spurt to cut the Cavalier lead back to 10. The Cavs would regain the momentum as they extended their lead to 15 with just under three minutes left in the half. A three from Prof junior Olivia Rulon, coupled with a pair of free throws from sophomore Dominique Peters and a layup from senior Summer Crilley brought the visitors back to within eight just before the break.
Rowan opened up the second stanza with a 6-2 run to bring them to within six, but that is as close as they would come as a 17-4 run for the Cavs would ensue and shut the door on any hopes of a comeback.
A clean fourth quarter from the Blue and White was enough to secured their fifth win in a row and seventh on the season.
As mentioned, the Cavs move to 7-2 overall on the young season and will have a chance to push their winning streak to six games when they host Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, January 3rd. Game time is slated for 6pm.
