Cavs Ride Power Surge to 17-7 Win Over Valley Forge

RADNOR, PA - The long layoff for the Cavaliers paid huge dividends today, as the Blue and White erupted for 17 runs, five doubles and a home run in a win over Valley Forge. The victory moves the Cav's record to 6-4 as they head into conference play on Friday when they host Keystone College for a three game series.

Dylan Butler delivered the big blow for the Blue and White, as they junior launched a three-run bomb in the bottom of the seventh and finished the day 1-3 with three runs and four RBI's. Casey Plunkett also had a solid game as he finished 3-5 with a double, three runs and one RBI. Josh Breittholz got the start and pitched two effective innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out two.

The Cavaliers kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the second as a pair of Patriot errors allowed Plunkett and Vince Gares to score, giving the Cavs the early 2-0 lead. The Patriots would get one back in the top half of the inning thanks to a single from Cody Rak.

A fielder's choice from Butler and a Tyler Norris walk got the ball rolling again for Cabrini in the bottom of the third. Plunkett took advantage of the runners on base as he roped a single to left field to plate Butler. Jake Dohar continued his hot hitting as the freshman delivered with a two out, two RBI double to left to extend the Cavaliers lead to 5-1.

The Cavaliers and Patriots would trade runs in the fourth to make it 6-2.

The bottom of the fifth put the game out of reach for good, as the Blue and White tacked on six runs on only three hits. The Patriots aided the Cav's efforts as they allowed four walks and two errors in the inning. Doubles from Michael Mescia and Norris, as well as a single from Plunkett stand alone as the only hits in the inning.

As mentioned, Butler hit his fourth home run of the season with a moon shot in the seventh inning to push the Cavs lead to 15-4. The third baseman now has 14 RBI's on the season to go along with a .382 average in nine games.

The Cavaliers will next take the diamond as they host Keystone this Friday at Cabrini Carroll Field to begin CSAC play. Game time is slated for 3pm.
