Softball Splits Games with TCNJ

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini softball team improved to 4-10 on the year after splitting a pair of games today with The College of New Jersey. The Blue and White earned a 9-6 win over the Lions in the teams' first meeting but fell 8-2 in game two.

Junior Jess Giordano put the Cavaliers out front early with a two run dinger to left center field, her second long ball on the year.

After four scoreless innings, the Lions' bats came alive for five runs on three hits in the fourth.

Down 5-2 in the bottom half of the sixth, the Cavaliers' offense exploded for seven runs on five hits to take a 9-5 lead.

Senior Lindsay Savar opened the bottom half with a lead-off home run over the center field wall. Cabrini would add its second run in the inning as freshman Alexandra Schell's single to left plated senior Amber Dietrich. Two batters later and the bases jammed, sophomore Marissa Alpaugh's single to left field scored senior Taylor Mack. The following at bat, junior Jess Giordano stepped into the batter's box and crushed a grand slam home run to right field. A pop fly the next at bat would end the inning.

TCNJ made a push at a comeback in the seventh but could only muster one run in the inning.

Cabrini out hit the Lions 11-6 in the tilt. Giordano led the club at the plate after going 3-4 with two home runs, along with a game high six RBI and two runs scored. Schell, Alpaugh and junior Chrissy Ferraro combined for two hits apiece, while Savar and junior Alexandria Ramos each tallied one.

Giordano picked up her third win in the circle, after tossing 7.0 innings, adding four strikeouts and allowing three earned runs.

The Lions left game one hungry and wasted zero time getting on the scoreboard in game two. The club notched two runs in the first and four runs in the second, though Cabrini would get one back in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly from Schell.

TCNJ extended its lead to 7-1 the following inning on a single up the middle. The Cavaliers and Lions traded runs in the sixth inning before the game came to a close.

Junior Jenna Rodriguez fell to 1-5 on the year in the pitcher's circle, after throwing 2.0 innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits.

Dietrich went 2-3 and notched her first homer on the year to lead the club from the plate. The senior also scored both runs for the Cavaliers in the loss.

Cabrini hosts Marywood University (2-9, 2-0 CSAC) in a Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader matchup at Cabrini Field on Friday at 3 p.m.
