RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's tennis team did something it has not done in 16 years with today's 7-2 win over Gwynedd Mercy.
The Cavaliers' fourth consecutive victory improved the club to 9-5 overall and 9-2 during the spring season.
More importantly, the win clinched a perfect 7-0 mark in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, a feat the program has not achieved since the 2001 season, a campaign that also marks the Cavaliers' last CSAC men's tennis championship.
Today's win also clinches the number one seed in next weekend's CSAC Tournament at Philadelphia's Legacy Tennis Center. Cabrini will face the number four seed in Friday's semifinal round at a time to be determined. Friday's semifinal winners will meet on Saturday at 5pm in the conference championship.
Cabrini grabbed an early lead with a pair of doubles wins. The number one duo of senior
Sean Jaeger and junior
Alijah Broadnax improved to 6-0 in the conference with an 8-0 win. The freshman team of
Charles LaMantia and
Matthew DeMaria earned their seventh league win with an 8-2 triumph.
The Cavaliers continued their solid play in the singles matches, claiming victory in all five.
Broadnax rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win at number one singles, while Jaeger was pushed to a third set for just the second time all year. The senior rallied from a second set loss to take the third 6-2.
LaMantia, DeMaria and sophomore
Nick Scaramuzza cruised to straight set wins, dropping a combined three games in claiming the numbers three, four and five flights, respectively.
The Blue and White will close the regular season on Monday, as they host Albright College (2-6, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) at 3pm.
