RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team closed its regular season on a high note tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field, as it scored a 20-14 victory over the visiting University of Scranton Lady Royals.
With the win, the Cavaliers improve to 14-3 overall, while Scranton fell to 9-5.
Today's action also marked the final regular home appearance for the Blue and White's eight seniors,
Megan Barlow,
Jess Breuning,
Shannon Fichter,
Jen Robinson,
Lisa Saraceni,
Maureen Sullivan,
Allie Vallen and
Sasha Wozniak.
As a group, these ladies have accumulated 536 points, 387 goals, 682 ground balls, 288 draw controls, 258 caused turnovers and 331 saves. The ladies have won 56 games in the blue and white, including a perfect 35-0 in CSAC play with three CSAC titles.
Wozniak and Vallen made the most of their final regular season home came, combining for nine goals.
Wozniak recorded four goals to become the program's ninth member of the 200 career point club. Vallen scored a career high five goals on just five shots in the win.
Sophomores
Avery Murphy and
Liz Hoeffner tallied five points each, combining for six goals and four assists, while junior
Jackie Neary paired two goals and two helpers.
Breuning added two goals, five ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers, while Wozniak joined her classmate with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Vallen and junior
Megan McLoughlin posted three ground balls, while Hoeffner, Murphy and fellow sophomore
Emma Rodner-Tims controlled three draws. Sophomore
Katie Kucia earned game high honors with three caused turnovers.
Barlow recorded 10 saves, including eight in the second half, to match a career high with her 14th victory of the season.
The Cavaliers built an early lead, as Neary and Wozniak marked the scoring column in the game's first five minutes. Scranton responded with three consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead.
Minutes later, the Cavaliers regained the lead and took a lead it would not relinquish. Over a six minute span midway through the first half, Cabrini posted six unanswered goals to take a 9-4 lead with nine minutes left in the stanza.
The teams exchanged goals over the final minutes of the half, with Scranton's Meghan Kerr scoring the second of her five goals with 11 seconds left in the half, cutting Cabrini's lead to 11-8.
The Blue and White opened the second half with a flurry, as it outscored the Lady Royals 6-2 in the opening eight minutes of the stanza, extending its lead to 17-10 with 20 minutes to play.
Junior Kailyn Angelo added three goals, nine draw controls and two ground balls for Scranton, while freshman Becca Russo added six ground balls and four draw controls. Fellow rookie Erin Putnam tallied eight saves in the loss.
As the number one seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament, the Cavaliers will not return to action until next Wednesday's semifinal round. The Blue and White must wait until the completion of Saturday's quarterfinal games to learn their semifinal opponent.
