Softball Tops Falcons, Advances to Championship Round

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini softball team collided with the Cedar Crest Falcons at Cabrini Field today in the opening round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament.

The Blue and White improved to 18-21 after today's 10-5 win over the Falcons and will play the top seeded Marywood Pacers (19-14, 19-3 CSAC) tomorrow in Scranton, PA at 3pm.

Junior Jess Giordano opened the scoring for the Cavaliers in the first, as her RBI single scored senior Taylor Mack

Cabrini stayed on the attack in the second, as the Blue and White plated four runs on three hits.

With two on and one out, sophomore Darian Caputo doubled to right, sending junior Alexandria Ramos home to score, while junior Jenna Rodriguez advanced to third.

Junior Chrissy Ferraro walked the following at bat to load the bases. Mack continued her strong play of late, clearing the base paths with an RBI double to left to put Cabrini in front, 5-0.

After a scoreless third inning from both clubs, Cedar Crest entered the scoring column in the fourth, as the Falcons went for a run on two hits.

A three run blast in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth evened the score at five apiece.

Despite being outhit 12-9, the Blue and White was able to capitalize on key opportunities down the stretch.

After three scoreless innings, the Blue and White offense delivered five runs in the sixth to reclaim and extend its lead to 10-5.

With the basses loaded, Mack drew the RBI walk. A wild pitch would advance the runners and score senior Taylor Gallagher. Two more Cavaliers would cross home plate, as the Blue and White capitalized on an infield error. Giordano's RBI double a few batters later made it 10-5.

Giordano held the Falcons to just one hit in the seventh to help the Cavaliers advance to tomorrow's championship rounds.

Mack went 2-3 at the plate and finished with a game high four RBI, to go along with two runs scored. Giordano added two RBI for the Cavaliers, while Caputo tallied one.

In the circle, Rodriguez recorded the start, while Gallagher earned the win. Rodriguez tossed four innings, allowed four earned runs and five hits and added a strikeout. Gallagher provided the club with two strong innings, allowing just one earned run on six hits.
