Softball Falls to Neumann, Immaculata in CSAC Championship Round Games

SCRANTON, PA - The Cabrini softball season came to a close today, as the club fell to Neumann and Immaculata in today's Colonial States Athletic Conference championship round.

The Blue and White opened the day's action with a 5-2 loss to the Knights, before dropping to the Mighty Macs, 3-2. The Cavaliers finished the year at 19-23 overall and 15-7 in the CSAC.

Today's losses mark the end for Cabrini seniors, Amber Dietrich, Taylor Gallagher, Lindsay Savar and Taylor Mack.

The quartet helped lead the Cavaliers to 95 wins, including a 72-20 mark in CSAC play and have made four straight appearances in the CSAC championship games. Savar, Dietrich, Mack and Gallagher have combined fir 539 hits, 344 runs, 53 home runs and 308 RBI and proved to be integral parts to Cabrini's recent success.

Neumann outhit the Blue and White 9-6 to start the day's action, while a solo home run in the first inning gave the Knights the early lead.

The Blue and White answered back in the top of the third with two runs on three hits. With one out and two runners on, sophomore Marissa Alpaugh notched an RBI single to left. Mack crossed home plate the next at bat, as junior Jess Giordano singled to the shortstop. A line out and a pop fly would end the club's run.

Neumann reclaimed the lead in the bottom half, as the Knights went for a pair of runs. Neumann extended the lead to 5-2, after adding runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Cabrini's attempt at a rally in the seventh fell short, as the club stranded a pair of runners.

Giordano led the club from the batter's box with a 2-3 performance and one RBI. The junior also pitched 5.2 innings, allowed four earned runs, nine hits and added one strikeout.

Alpaugh went 1-3 from the plate and recorded an RBI, while Mack and junior Chirssy Ferraro each added a run in the loss.

Against Immaculata, the Blue and White opened the scoring in the first inning. Mack doubled down the left field line and eventually scored on a series of infield errors.

The Mighty Macs bounced back with three runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead.

The Cavaliers cut the lead to one in the third on a pair of hits. Mack reached on double to right, before making her way home on a wild pitch and Alpaugh groundout, respectively.

The Mighty Macks held the Blue and White scoreless the rest of the way.

Mack went 2-3 at the plate and finished with a pair of doubles and two runs scored, while four other Cavaliers recorded a hit.

Junior Jenna Rodriguez went 3.2 innings in the circle and allowed three runs on three hits, zero earned runs, to go along with a strikeout.

As a result today's action, Immaculata will meet Neumann in the CSAC title game tomorrow in Scranton, PA. First pitch is at noon.
