Men's Basketball Tops Rosemont 92-81 for 5th Straight Win

ROSEMONT, PA – The Cavaliers shot nearly .570 from the floor and scored 51 second half points to score a 92-81 victory at Rosemont College tonight.

Cabrini's fifth consecutive win improved the team to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Ravens fell to 7-5 and 3-3 in league play.

Five Cavaliers scored at least nine points in the win, led by sophomore Keith Blassingale's career high 27 points.   The sophomore guard connected on 11-19 from the floor en route to his fifth consecutive game with at least 25 points.

Senior Tyheim Monroe continued his double-double streak, pairing 24 points and 17 rebounds. Freshman DJ Smith added 11 points, one more than junior Anthony Wright-Downing.

The Blue and White scored the game's first five points and extended its early lead to 10-2 just 2:28 after the opening whistle. Midway through the stanza, the Ravens used a 12-2 spurt to gain control of the scoreboard.

A layup by Charles Presley gave Rosemont a commanding 30-20 lead, as the Ravens' cushion tanged from 4-8 points for much of the second half of the period.

Trailing 41-33 late in the half, Cabrini found some rhythm, as it scored eight of the last 10 points of the half, pulling within 43-41 at the break.

The score went back and forth over the first several minute of the second half, but with the score tied at 55, Cabrini made its move.

Over the next three minutes, the Cavaliers went on a 12-2 run, as Blassingale's three point play gave the Blue and White a 67-57 lead with 10:43 to play.

One minute later, the Ravens pulled within four points, but would get no closer.

Blassingale and Monroe paced the Cavaliers in the second half, posting 20 and 15 points, respectively, and combined for 10 rebounds after the break.

Cabrini also turned up its defensive effort, holding Rosemont to just .417 shooting from the field, including 5-17 from three point range, with only four free throw attempts in the second half.

Junior Ivan Robinson chipped in with six assists and four steals for the Cavaliers, while freshman Trey Smith added nine points. Cabrini also recorded 11 steals, including 10 from the trio of Robinson, Blassingale and Monroe.

Mekhi Clemons scored 16 points to lead four Ravens in double figure scoring.  Presley added 15 points, while Jalil Myers paired 14 points and 11 boards.

The Cavaliers will return to Nerney Field House on Thursday, as they host Marywood University (8-4, 3-3 CSAC). Tip is slated for 8pm.
