Rosemont, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team pushed their win streak to eight this evening with a 74-53 victory over Rosemont College.
On a night where four different Cavs recorded at least 10 points, it was the defense that shined brightest as the Blue and White held the Ravens to just 18-of-61 (29.5%) shooting on their home court. The Cavaliers also tallied 10 steals, six blocks and outrebounded the Ravens by an impressive 55-to-31 margin to round out their stalwart defense.
Freshman
Kate Lannon paced the Cavs with 17 points, highlighted by a trio of threes, as well as nine rebounds in just 19 minutes of action, while classmate
Lexi Edwards added 10 points. Junior
Sabrina Hackendorn collected her third double-double on the year as she paired 14 points with 10 boards. Sophomore
Meghan Matthews did a little bit of everything as she finished with 13 points, seven boards, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
The Cavs jumped out to a 19-9 lead after the first 10 minutes and extended their lead to 15 mid way through the second after a long ball from senior
Kate Skalski. The Ravens responded, however with an 11-to-3 run to close out the first half and cut the Cavs' lead to 37-30.
The Blue and White would alleviate any fear of a comeback during the third quarter as Lannon and classmate
Kate King, along with sophomore
Cassidy Gallagher each drilled a three to highlight an 11-to-3 run to put Cabrini back up comfortably, 51-36.
Cabrini would add 21 points across the final stanza to widen the gap and cruise to their eighth win in a row. The Cavs' eight game win streak is their longest since the team's 18 game win streak during the 2014-15 season.
With the victory the Blue and White improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. They will next host Notre Dame of Maryland University on Thursday, January 11th at 6pm.
