RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers built an early lead and never looked back, as the Cabrini women's lacrosse team scored an 18-7 win over the visiting Keystone College Giants today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
With today's win, the Blue and White improved to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The Cavaliers took control in the game's opening minutes, as junior
Emma Rodner-Tims recorded the first of her two goals just 69 seconds after the opening whistle. Freshman
Taylor Dimmerling added to the lead 43 seconds later.
Juniors
Avery Murphy and
Liz Hoeffner combined to score the next five goals, extending the Cabrini lead to 7-0 at the 22:22 mark of the first half. The Giants responded by scoring three of the game's next four goals, pulling within 8-3 midway through the period.
The Blue and white had an answer of its own, closing the first half on a 6-1 spurt over the final 16:19 of the half to take a commanding 14-4 lead at the half.
The Cavaliers' offense overwhelmed the vising Giants, as Cabrini recorded 37 first half shots to just six for Keystone.
The Giants' sophomore goaltender Daphne Leenas kept the visitors within reach in the opening stanza, recording 10 of her 15 saves in the first half.
Hoeffner paced the Cabrini attack with seven total points, including six goals on the day. Sophomore
Lauren Hughes added a career best five points and four assists.
Murphy paired three goals, six ground balls and four draw controls, while Rodner-Tims added career bests of seven ground balls and four caused turnovers to her two goals.
Senior
Jackie Neary chipped in with a goal, two helpers, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Freshman
Ashley Tutzauer joined Dimmerling with two goals and corralled a season best five draws.
Junior netminder
Devon Scharf earned the victory with 30 minutes of action, while sophomore
Noelia Ramirez and freshman
Lauren Buck split second half minutes.
Senior Emily Hawkins, junior Alex Smith and sophomore Savanna Robinson scored two goals each for the Giants (1-3, 0-2 CSAC). Hawkins and Robinson also combined for six ground balls, six caused turnovers and eight draw controls in the loss.
The Cavaliers have little time to relish today's victory, as they will return to action on Saturday morning, as Rowan University (3-1) pays a visit to Edith Robb Dixon Field. The opening draw is scheduled for 10am.
