IMMACULATA, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team found its offensive rhythm early tonight, as it scored a season high 24 goals in tonight's victory at Immaculata University.
With tonight's 24-11 win, the Cavaliers improved to 4-5 overall and 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Juniors
Avery Murphy and
Liz Hoeffner provided the spark to the Cabrini offense, combining for 21 points in the win. Hoeffner paired nine goals and an assist, while Murphy recorded career highs of seven goals, four assists and 11 total points.
Both also entered the Cabrini record book tonight, as the junior duo became the newest members of Cabrini's 100 career goal club.
Murphy opened the scoring 3:16 into the game, but Immaculata evened the score 30 seconds later. It took Murphy 11 seconds to put Cabrini ahead for good with a goal that sent the Cavaliers on an 8-0 run.
Less than nine minutes after the opening draw, the Cavaliers held a commanding 9-1 lead, as Murphy, Hoeffner and senior
Jackie Neary had combined for all nine goals.
The Mighty Macs grabbed some of the momentum with three unanswered goals to pull within 9-4 midway through the opening half.
Murphy's fifth goal of the day stopped the Immaculata scoring streak, before sophomore
Lauren Hughes and Hoeffner scored to regain Cabrini's eight goal lead with 4:34 left in the half.
The Cavaliers closed the half with a flurry, as Neary and Hoeffner pushed the lead back to eight goals at the 2:34 mark. Freshman
Taylor Dimmerling added two goals in a span of 17 seconds in the final minute of the half, handing the Blue and White a 16-6 halftime lead.
Both teams exchanged goals through the second half, but Cabrini recorded the final three goals, with Murphy, Hoeffner and junior
Katie Kucia, who scored her first goal of the season, marking the scoring column.
In total, seven Cavaliers recorded goals in the win, with Neary scoring a season-high three goals, one more than Dimmerling. Freshman
Ashley Tutzauer recorded a season-high three assists.
Murphy accounted for 12 of the Blue and White's 20 draw controls, while Neary paired six draw controls, caused four turnovers and scooped three ground balls. Kucia paired three caused turnovers and three ground balls, as classmate
Emma Rodner-Tims added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Junior goaltender
Devon Scharf anchored Cabrini's defense with 11 saves in the victory.
Hannah Verrecchia scored three goals for Immaculata (4-3, 2-1 CSAC), while three other Mighty Macs recorded two goals each.
The Cavaliers will enjoy the Easter break before returning to action on Wednesday, when they host Neumann University (6-4, 3-0 CSAC). The opening draw is scheduled for 7pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
