Women's Lacrosse Drops Regular Season Finale at Scranton

SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team closed its regular season tonight, as the Cavaliers suffered an 18-9 loss at the University of Scranton. With the loss, the Blue and White will enter the postseason with a 10-7 overall record.

Senior Jackie Neary paced the Cavaliers tonight, matching a career high four goals with a season best five caused turnovers. Freshman Ashley Tutzauer added two goals and four ground balls.

Freshman Sarah McCarron forced a pair of Scranton miscues, while junior Katie Kucia scooped three ground balls. Classmate Avery Murphy secured eight draw controls. Junior Devon Scharf recorded four saves in the loss.

The Lady Royals scored the game's first two goals before Tutzauer's unassisted goal put Cabrini on the board at the 23:05 mark. Scranton created some distance over the next nine minutes, tallying five unanswered goals.

Neary's first goal of the night came with 13:17 left in the first half. The senior added a second tally with 10 minutes left in the stanza, but the Blue and White trailed 9-3. The Lady Royals responded with four goals in a 90 second span before Neary completed her hat trick to pull Cabrini within 13-4.

Scranton recorded the final three goals of the half to take a commanding 16-4 lead at the half.

The Cavaliers finally found some rhythm in the second half, as it outscored the Lady Royals 5-2 in the second stanza, with freshman Taylor Dimmerling joining seniors Sara Johnsen and Emily Crouse marking the scorebook.

Despite its halftime deficit, the Cavaliers recorded just five fewer shots than Scranton before the break, 22-17, but the Lady Royals' goaltenders Erin Putnam and Lauren Devlin came up with seven in both the first and second halves, respectively.

Shannon Warburton led 11 Scranton (10-6) goal scorers, tallying six goals, while Elana Gallo paired two goals and three assists.

The Cavaliers will have a few days to recoup from tonight's loss, as they will not return to action until next Wednesday, when they host a CSAC Tournament semifinal game. Cabrini must wait until the results from Saturday's opening round games to learn its semifinal opponent.
