GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – The Cabrini softball team closed its regular season today, splitting a pair of games at Gwynedd Mercy. The Cavaliers rallied for a 9-5 win in eight innings in the opener, but could not carry its momentum into the nightcap, galling 8-0.
With today's results, the Blue and White closed its regular season with a 22-10 overall record, including 18-4 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
By virtue of its conference record, Cabrini has secured the number two seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament and has earned a bye into Friday's championship round.
The Griffins jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the opener, but he Cavaliers found their rhythm in the top of the fourth inning.

Jess Giordano opened the inning with singles, before advancing on a sacrifice bunt by senior
Alexandria Ramos. Alpaugh scored on a ground out by sophomore

Jess Redding, pinch running for Giordano, then stole home to even the score. Freshman
Aysiah Cintron then put the Cavaliers ahead with a two RBI double to center field.
Cabrini held its 4-2 cushion until GMercyU rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Blue and White got the run it needed early in the seventh, as Alpaugh, who opened the frame with a triple, scored on a ground out by senior
Jenna Rodriguez.
Rodriguez then drove in what proved to be the winning runs in the eighth, as her single through the middle plated senior
Chrissy Ferraro and Cintron. The senior then crossed the plate with Alpaugh on Ramos' single to right.
Rodriguez, pitching in relief of the starter Gordano, shut the door on the Griffins, sitting them down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eight.
The senior drove in a career high three RBI and earned the victory in the pitcher's circle, tossing 2.1 innings of one hit ball. Alpaugh, Giordano and Schell notched two hits each, while Cintron and Ramos drove in two runs each.
The Blue and White could not carry its momentum into the nightcap, as the Cavaliers recorded just two hits in their 8-0 loss. The Griffins took advantage, taking advantage of six Cabrini errors to score four runs in the third and two in the fourth and fifth to end the game.
