Scouting the Engineers
Coming off its 20th straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, the MIT men's tennis team will look to build upon last season's success in this year's championships.

The Engineers earned a first-round bye in the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Team Championship Tournament, defeated No. 40 Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-1, in the second round and advanced to the Regional Final match for the second consecutive year against No. 7 Bowdoin College. They ultimately fell to Bowdoin by a 5-0 final.

Led by Tyler Barr in the No. 1 flight, MIT poses stiff competition in every flight as they have combined for a 71-27 singles record in dual matches this season.

The Engineers are guided by head coach Dave Hagymas who is in his 13th season at the helm. Hagymas is a five-time NEWMAC Coach of the Year and paved the way for his squads best season in 2017; a year that included the team's (then) 19th straight NEWMAC Championship, a program record 18 wins and a student-athlete that qualified for the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship Tournament for the first time since 2012-13.

The sophomore duo of Nick Falcone and Vice Paetow doubled the team's lead as they edged their Defender counterparts by way of an 8-4 decision, while sophomores Nick Tilley and Matthew DeMaria followed suit with an 8-4 victory of their own in the No. 3 slot.

LaMantia, the 2018 CSAC Player of the Year, made quick work of Summit's Evan Griffen in singles flight No. 2, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 decision to push the Cavs' team lead to 4-0.

Needing just one more team point, rookie Chuckwuma Duru rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 6 slot to capture the championship for the Cavs.
