Middlebury, VT - The Cabrini men's tennis team closed their 2017-18 season on Friday afternoon after falling to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Engineers by a 5-0 final.
The 20 time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champions proved a worthy foe for the Blue and White as showed their prowess throughout the match.
Senior
Alijah Broadnax and sophomore
CJ LaMantia fell by an 8-1 score in the No. 1 doubles flight, while freshmen
Vince Paetow and
Nick Falcone matched their teammates score in the No. 2 slot.
Sophomores
Nick Tilley and
Matthew DeMaria took an 8-0 loss in No. 3 doubles.
Broadnax and LaMantia couldn't hold off their Engineer counterparts in singles play, falling by a 6-0, 6-0 score in the No. 1 and No. 2 flight, respectively. Paetow and Falcone took a game each from their respective opponents, but ultimately their matches, along with Tilley and freshman Chuckwuma Duru, went unfinished as MIT captured the aforementioned 5-0 final.
Despite the loss, the 2018 season proved a fruitful one for the Blue and White as they captured their second consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) championship following a 5-0 victory over the No. 2 seeded Clarks Summit Defenders. In doing so, they also claimed the team's second consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament.
Following their First Round match, the Cavs cap their season with a 12-6 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in league play. They will look to continue their run of conference success next season as they transition to the newly announced Atlantic East Conference.
