Baseball Falls to Mighty Macs by 5-1 Final

Radnor, PA - The Cabrini baseball team couldn't hold off the Mighty Macs in the final game of the series as Immaculata earned a split thanks to a 5-1 final.

Offensively, the Blue and White were led by junior Tyler Norris and senior Brett Kuchera who tallied two hits apiece, as well as sophomore Vince Gares who knocked in the Cavaliers' only run of the game.

Junior John Lindeborn, freshman Mack McKisson, senior Dylan Butler and sophomore Alex Del Giudice split the Cavs' remaining four hits with one each.

Josh Breittholz toed the rubber and after a shaky first inning, the senior settled in nicely tossing 4.2 innings and three earned on six hits.

Two of Breittholz's three earned runs came in the first inning as he hit Immaculata's Tyler Kmeic with one out. Kmeic was promptly brought home thanks to a triple down the right field line from Justin Dempsey. A single up the middle off the bat of Greg Dahl made it a 2-0 Mighty Mac lead. Breittholz would retire the next batter to limit the damage.

The score would hold steady until the fourth when Lindeborn led off the inning with a single up the middle. Following a McKisson fly out, Lindeborn swiped second and advanced to third thanks to a single from Kuchera. Gares stepped in the box and delivered with a grounder to short to plate Lindeborn. Immaculata's starter Eddie Decker would get Butler swinging to end the inning.

Decker was superb on the night as he allowed just the one run in the fourth and went seven strong innings. The righty allowed just seven hits and struck out six.

The Blue and White would threaten in both the eighth and ninth inning, but the Immaculata relievers came through in both innings with timely strikeouts to escape trouble and hang on for the eventual 5-1 final.

Following today's action, the Cavs move to 18-17 overall and 7-7 in the conference. They will cap their season with a key double header against the Marywood Pacers on Saturday, May 5th to determine their post season fate. Saturday will also serve as the Cavaliers' first senior day, in which the team will recognize the accomplishments of Butler, Kuchera and Breittholz.
