Radnor, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team was in control from the beginning as they cruised to a comfortable 5-1 victory over the visiting Lehman College Lightning this afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The Cavs outshot the Lightning 16-3 and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks on afternoon. Cabrini turned those corners into goals as early pressure forced two own goals from the Lightning with the first coming in the opening minute.
Junior
Marissa Portelli took a corner just 50 second into the match and placed it perfectly for junior
Diana VanSickle who connected on a header that richocheted off a Lightning defender and into the back of the net.
Just 10 minutes later, junior
Katelyn Gilinger doubled the Cabrini lead courtesy of a well placed cross from classmate
Maddy Wojton from the left side. The 2-0 lead would stand for just nine minutes until Lehman recorded their second own goal of the half.
The Lighting would get one back, however, in the 37th minute to cut the Cabrini lead to 3-1. The score would hold steady through the half until the Cavs added another in the 50th minute. VanSickle, who nearly tallied the game's first goal, would connect for her fourth goal of the year following an assist from Portelli.
A late goal from freshman
Kaitryn Cloud in the 67th minute would cap the scoring for the Blue and White.
Following today's action, the Cavs improve to 6-3 on the season. They will open conference play in their next match on Wednesday, October 3rd. Match time is slated for 7pm.
