St. Davids, PA - The Cabrini women's soccer team dropped their first match of the season this afternoon as the hosting Eastern University Eagles claimed a 3-1 victory in the annual Battle of Eagle Road.
Despite matching the Eagles number of shots with eight and holding a slight advantage in corner kicks (4-3), the Blue and White were held to just one goal thanks to a stiff Eagles' defense. The back line allowed the Cavs just three shots on goal, and none after the 65th minute.
Forward Alex Garces netted Cabrini's lone goal in the 51st minute to cut the Eagles' lead in half. The sophomore forced a turnover in the box and lofted the ball over Eastern keeper Adrianna Rowlands for her first goal of the season.
Eastern responded less than five minutes later, however to push their lead back to two in the 55th minute.
The Blue and White would put pressure back on Rowlands nearly 10 minutes later following a shot from sophomore
Katelyn Gilinger, but the senior keeper kept the Eagles' lead intact with her second save of the game.
The Cavs offense was stymied the rest of the way, resulting in the aforementioned 3-1 final.
Cabrini will look to rebound this Saturday, September 8th as they travel to Rosemont, PA to take on former conference foe Rosemont. Game time is slated for noon.
